Hello outthere,
I had to take a minute today to talk about the seal slaughter that is going on in Canada. Now when I was a girl, my older sister was very involved in animal welfare, she still is. I remember learning about the horrible ways that they kill baby seals for thier fur. Well now I am all grown up and this crap is still going on. What will it take?
Over the past few years our US House of Representatives have passed a resolution absoluteley condeming seal hunts, Mexico, European Parliment and other European countries beat us to the punch, but at least the government came on boeard in July of 2007.
We as Americans have had and can continue to have a devastating effect on the trade. 75% of Canada's fishing export comes to America, that is a 3 billion dollar industry. If we as consumers stop buying fish and seafood products from Canada, we are sending a clear message that we mean business. Many resturants have come on board, sadly not here in VA. But more are surely to come.
Stop buying those crab legs if they are from Canada, dont' buy the shrimp, the immitaiton crab meat or anything else from them.
Take the time to see where your seafood is coming from. There is a petition that can be signed to this effect. You can also send letters to the government there, urging them to take action on this barbarous act.
