Save the seals

Hello outthere,

I had to take a minute today to talk about the seal slaughter that is going on in Canada. Now when I was a girl, my older sister was very involved in animal welfare, she still is. I remember learning about the horrible ways that they kill baby seals for thier fur. Well now I am all grown up and this crap is still going on. What will it take?
Over the past few years our US House of Representatives have passed a resolution absoluteley condeming seal hunts, Mexico, European Parliment and other European countries beat us to the punch, but at least the government came on boeard in July of 2007.
We as Americans have had and can continue to have a devastating effect on the trade. 75% of Canada's fishing export comes to America, that is a 3 billion dollar industry. If we as consumers stop buying fish and seafood products from Canada, we are sending a clear message that we mean business. Many resturants have come on board, sadly not here in VA. But more are surely to come.
Stop buying those crab legs if they are from Canada, dont' buy the shrimp, the immitaiton crab meat or anything else from them.
Take the time to see where your seafood is coming from. There is a petition that can be signed to this effect. You can also send letters to the government there, urging them to take action on this barbarous act.

Ringling Brothers Going Down?

The American Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals, The Animal Protection Institute, The Animal Welfare Institute, The ASPCA’s

Fund for Animals, and Tom Rider, a former employee of Ringling Brother Barnam and Bailey circus are taking them head on.

This is fight that has been going on since 2000. The circus clearly violates the endangered species act. Who is being violated, well among other defenseless animals are the Asian Elephants. The continued forced separation of babies from their mothers, the inhumane use of bullwhips, they have hooks at the end, this is their form of “discipline,”

And these poor animals being chained where they cannot move, when by nature they walk miles a day is found unacceptable by me and many others.

Since 2000 this circus has been using stalling tactics with the court system, finally last week Judge Emmet Sullivan of the Washington D.C Federal district court has announced that they will stand trial for these alleged violations. Praise the Lord!

Finally the court has had enough, how many baby elephants have died from their discipline is unknown. They are in clear violation of court orders for withholding evidence and a trial date is expected soon.

Eye witness testimony to the United States Department of Agriculture includes elephants being chained for more than twenty hours a day. Undercover investigations have video proof of the torture and abuse of these animals with bull hooks.

Employees of ringling brothers circus have witnessed these animals dripping with blood from these bull hooks during the show!

The public awareness of this senseless abuse has grown quite a lot. Thanks to that and the unending efforts of the organizations mentioned previously Judge Sullivan has said a trial date is expected soon and all evidence must be in by the end of this year. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of these wonderful human beings and all of you out there who boycott the circus and support animal welfare.

PitBulls, did you know?

Pit Bulls originate from an English bull baiting dog, bred from bulldogs and terriers. These animals were bred to fight bears, bulls and other large animals to the death. They were trained to latch on and not let go. Most often the animal under attack would die from blood loss. This and many other blood sports were quite popular, especially in royal courts of England. Finally bull baiting was put to an end in 1835.
So, people decided to take on the sickening sport of dog fighting. Originally there were rules and the sport was followed by rather elite crowds. The dogs were further bred for strength and longevity. Over time this sport has made it to the streets. This poor breeding has led to the bad reputation of today’s modern American Pit Bull.
These dogs are by nature very even tempered, obedient and they have earned the title “nursemaids dog” in the long ago past for their diligence in watching over and loving children. Most people do not know that pit bulls rank in the top ten by the American Temperament Test Society. There is just a slight difference between them and the long beloved golden Retriever; they are very commonly used as therapy dogs in hospitals and nursing homes.
Unfortunately Pit Bull fighting is reaching an epidemic proportion. There is an awesome project going on in Chicago, I wish the media would focus more on this, The Chicago Coalition to Cease Dog Fighting. Mr. Tio Hardman of whom I am a huge fan, heads the task force. He is taking on the Chicago streets, one block at a time. Many drug dealers actually keep Pits to “protect” their drug stashes. Of coarse these dogs are trained to be vicious killers, is that the dogs fault?
In inner cities dog fighting, gangs, drugs and illegal weapons all go hand in hand. Tio can take these dogs that have never known love and absolutely turn them around. He has a wonderful gift and we need more people like him. He is working with legislators, Best Friends Network and The ASPCA. He hosts competitions where people can showcase their dogs’ natural talents and strength in a non-violent way.
There is also a wonderful project going on called Brother helping Brothers, based out of Liberation Christian Center. Elder Tony Gordon is a police dog trainer, as good as they get. He helps ex-cons teaching them his training techniques. This is such a good connection; Pit Bulls have attained this awful reputation and as one might imagine or know personally, it may be quite the same for an ex-con trying to get back in the work force and life.
These men are making such a profound difference in their violence ridden communities.
Tio will be at the upcoming Canine Legislation Conference, where they will be working on the tough issues that face Pit Bull ownership today.
On another note, the ASPCA and BADRAP with the approval of the USDA are taking on the responsibility of temperament testing and any possible rehabilitation of the dogs seized in the Michael Vick tragedy. I mean tragedy for the dogs, as for the man, he had it all and he threw it away. I applaud the attorneys from the ASPCA that chewed him up!

Dental problems in canines

Gum disease affects 1 out of three dogs and 85% of cats. The usual telltale sign is bad breath. Teeth should be white to slightly yellow and gums should be nice and pink.
The bacteria from dental infections can be swallowed and can spread to vital organs such as the liver and kidneys and eventually cause organ failure.
Dental disease is also linked to heart disease. When you pet has dental problems you can help with antioxidants and immune boosting suppliments.
Of course if you get your pet at a young age you can start brushing thier teeth when they are babies and most will get used to thier dental routine.
But as many of us adopt pets that are along in years (Thank the Lord) we have to go with what we have.
When you get a puppy you can massage thier face and gums from the outside, get your pet used to this and you can move inside and massage the gums. This usually gets them used to thier dental routine and makes it a lot easier to stick in the brush and get to cleaning. Though it is never to late to start.
You should always encourage chewing in puppies.
Nutritional support is number one in maintaining a healthy animal on the whole.
The antioxidant coenzyme Q-10 helps by fighting by products in the system or "free radicals" It is widely used in dogs with heart problems which is commonly associated with gingivitus. This particular enzyme helps with inflammation, pain and bleeding associated with gingivitus.
Vitamins c, e, zinc, manganese and vitamin A help to
strenghten tissue.
Vitamin E can be used strait from the capsule of sores.
Food sources with probiotics
and enzymes can greatly improve your pets overall health, it will usually take two or three months and there will be visable improvement.

I have two products that I am featuring on my website this month
Vetri-Science Cell Advance is a suppliment loaded with Coenzyme Q-10, vitamins A,C and E, and over 20 nutrients. This is a excellent product for building up your dogs immune system and kepping them healthy.

The kibble Natures Variety is one of the best pet foods out there. Fresh meat is the first ingredient. Meat and organs make up 40% of the food. After processing the food is supplimented with probiotics, prebiotics and enzymes that would be in raw foods. Prebiotics help to strenghthen the immune system and prebiotics establish a healthy flora in the digestive tract.

Arthritis in canines

Arthritis in canines is a degenerative joint disease. It affects the bone, cartilage and surrounding tissue. Over time Cartilage becomes more prone to breaking. Some dogs are prone to hip dysplasia or ligament damage. Tick infections can also cause cartilage damage. Older dogs tend to show the symptoms of arthritis; hard to stand, stiffness, or a lack of interest in play and romping. Obesity is one of the leading causes of arthritis in pets as in humans. Overeating and lack of exercise are a great contributor of increased longevity with many health problems.
If you own a dog of large or giant breed it is especially important to feed them appropriate diets, when fed large amounts of proteins and calcium they will almost certainly devolop orthopedic problems.
Exercise is a must for all dogs. I have found personally that it is much easier to maintain a exercise program, like daily walking, if you do it with your best friend. It is important to remember to warm up your dogs muscles , so start walking slowly and gradually increase your speed. To help treat arthritis in dogs is basically the same as humans. A healthy diet and exercise. Nsaids are commonly used. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate help to relieve symptoms in humans as well as caines. I have a wide variety of products on my site for arthritis in particular as well as foods, treats, other nutritional suppliments. Pets2Love.net
