Fund for Animals, and Tom Rider, a former employee of Ringling Brother Barnam and Bailey circus are taking them head on.
This is fight that has been going on since 2000. The circus clearly violates the endangered species act. Who is being violated, well among other defenseless animals are the Asian Elephants. The continued forced separation of babies from their mothers, the inhumane use of bullwhips, they have hooks at the end, this is their form of “discipline,”
And these poor animals being chained where they cannot move, when by nature they walk miles a day is found unacceptable by me and many others.
Since 2000 this circus has been using stalling tactics with the court system, finally last week Judge Emmet Sullivan of the Washington D.C Federal district court has announced that they will stand trial for these alleged violations. Praise the Lord!
Finally the court has had enough, how many baby elephants have died from their discipline is unknown. They are in clear violation of court orders for withholding evidence and a trial date is expected soon.
Eye witness testimony to the United States Department of Agriculture includes elephants being chained for more than twenty hours a day. Undercover investigations have video proof of the torture and abuse of these animals with bull hooks.
Employees of ringling brothers circus have witnessed these animals dripping with blood from these bull hooks during the show!
The public awareness of this senseless abuse has grown quite a lot. Thanks to that and the unending efforts of the organizations mentioned previously Judge Sullivan has said a trial date is expected soon and all evidence must be in by the end of this year. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of these wonderful human beings and all of you out there who boycott the circus and support animal welfare.
