I started out selling products with shea butter for dogs on my website. These products have outstanding healing properties and are just wonderful for our dogs coats. I know from personal experience with my own animals and from grooming dogs. I began to do some research on the shea trees themselves and found out just how important they are. The tree has different species native to Africa. The particular species nilotica indigenous to the upper Nile region is the type used in Shea Pet products. Around 1990 a project was started for conservation and development of the species. There are over 10,000 miles across northern Uganda and southern Sudan on which the slow growing trees are protected. This particular subspecies is a softer smoother blend of the butter that is of much use in the cosmetic industry. This is an ancient and sacred tree. But what I was most excited about was the industry in Africa itself. The Shea Project has been introduced to over 10,000 farming households in the area. The trees have a very heavy yeild. The actual prices for the product is set by the farmers themselves. It has made education, food clothing and nourishment to the families available.
The products containing shea butter are wonderful for dry skin, chapping, dermatitis, sunburn and even rosacea. It has a one year shelf life.
Purchasing products containing nilotica shea butter promotes conservation of the precious woodlands of Africa, and improves the ecological and cultural standards for the people in this region.
